Wooden wicks

We love wood wicks for their crackling and comforting quality. Perfect for the fall season and even during winter. There are several levels of crackling. At Sage Pure, we chose a light crackling, just enough to give you a moment of relaxation when using it.
We use eco-friendly cotton wicks as well as wooden wicks that are made from FSC certified natural wood.
Here is some information that might help you maximize your candle.
  • Why isn't my wooden wick burning?
Aside from the tunneling issue, if your wood wick candle won't stay lit, it's probably because the wick is too long or needs to be trimmed and freed of any charred material . Remember, it's not the wood that fuels your candle's flame, it's the wax.
  • Interview
It is important to trim the blackened wick of your candle after each use . Either with a wick trimmer or nail clippers. With scissors, you will not be able to cut the wick straight. For wooden wicks, 1/8 inch from the wax surface is suggested.

  • The wick goes out quickly, here are some solutions
- a tunnel has been created in the wax: melt the entire surface using a hairdryer or a match (be careful! the container will become hot and the wax could splash) then use a paper towel to absorb the excess, or hollow out the surface with a round-ended knife to even it out.

- there is a buildup of ash at the end of the wick: this must be removed before relighting the candle — too much accumulation causes the flame to diminish.

- Wick is too long or too short: Always trim the wick (1/4 inch from the wax surface for cotton wicks and 1/8 inch from the wax surface for wood wicks) before each use — the wrong length can cause premature extinguishment.
